ktvu's alex savidge joins us from oakland with the update. good morning, alex. >> reporter: pam, good morning to you. crews here throughout the night to make sure there are no flareups but this fire is now under control. let me show you the scene ear on sky view drive. there is an oakland firetruck parked here. obviously, this crew is keeping an eye on things just to make sure that nothing flares back up. yesterday, this fire burned dangerously close to many homes here but crews were able to get the upper hand quickly. the fire burned many acres near the old rock quarry. the fire broke out about noon yesterday in this dry brush and quickly exploded in size. about 80 firefighters fought the flames from the ground but it was that air attack that made a huge difference. cal fire responded with water- dropping helicopters and planes came in and dropped fire retar retardants on those flames. authorities did order the evacuation of some homes. >> it looked bad. i grabbed some changes of clothes, and got out of dodge, just headed out. >> reporter: c
